    Mr. Black has twenty-four years of experience in the real estate profession. He began his career as a Salesperson and after five years he became a branch office manager for an eight office real estate brokerage firm. He then began performing residential appraisals for mortgage lending purposes.

    Over the next fifteen years, he has completed thousands of residential valuations as well as hundreds of non-residential appraisals. These properties have included apartment and office buildings, private extraction sites, lumberyards, and recreational venues, such as health & pool clubs, bowling alleys, and miniature golf courses.

    From July 1997 to May 1998 the Charlotte County, Florida Property Appraiser's Office, employed him. He was part of the Commercial Property Section, and assigned to income producing properties. Since then, he has opened D.J. Black & Company a full service real estate company.

    He is the author of two texts published by the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers. They are the NAIFA’s Marshall & Swift Residential Education Training Guide and the NAIFA’s Marshall & Swift Commercial Training Guide. He is also the developer of a four hour seminar on Appraising Undivided Partial Interests. He is a nationally certified instructor for NAIFA, and was nominated for the Instructor of the Year Award in both 2000 & 2001. He also served as the Chairman of their National Education Committee in 2002.

    He has taught courses in Basic Appraisal Principals, the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, Understanding Residential Construction, Using the Marshall & Swift Residential Handbook, Using the Marshall & Swift Valuation Service, Commercial Construction Costs Calculator vs. Segregated Methods, ANSI Method for Calculating Square Footage, Valuing Undivided Fractional Interests, and Small Income Property Appraising.

    He has testified as an expert witness before several County Boards of Taxation, regarding property tax assessments in New Jersey and Florida. He served as Condemnation Commissioner for the Superior Court of New Jersey. He is approved by the Appraisal Foundation as an instructor of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice national course for appraisers. He has also performed appraisals relating to the defense of other appraiser, being sued because of their work.
